2018 Clifton Kruse Ethics Lecture: Non-Verbal Communication
The Model Rules of Professional Conduct require an attorney to communicate effectively with a client. We know that not all communication is verbal, in fact a great deal of it is non-verbal. For an attorney to provide competent representation of a client under Model Rule 1.1, it’s critical for an attorney to know and understand various meanings of non-verbal communication, both the attorney’s and the client’s. This session will cover some of those more common non-verbal communications that a client may demonstrate and offer suggestions to the attorneys on how to maximize those client communications under Model Rule 1.4.
