In September 2019, Tennessee released an initial draft to convert its Medicaid (TennCare) program to a block grant. Tennessee NAELA submitted comments detailing how the proposed waiver “is inconsistent with the objectives of Medicaid” in providing medical care and services to low-income Tennesseans. The letter outlined the possible detrimental impacts on elders living in Tennessee, including reducing enrollment in Medicaid, eliminating coverage of prescription drugs, and negative changes to managed care. NAELA joined the Leadership Council of Aging Organization’s (LCAO’s) letter opposing the restructuring of TennCare to a block grant.
