Letter to HUD Opposing Revocation of 30-Day Notification Requirement Prior to Termination of Lease for Nonpayment of Rent

April 24, 2026

NAELA joined a coalition of national organizations expressing strong opposition to the Interim Final Rule (IFR) that would revoke the 30-Day Notification Requirement Prior to Termination of Lease for Nonpayment of Rent (89 FR 101270) (“30-day notice rule”). Under the IFR, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will repeal the 30-day notice rule that requires public housing authorities (PHAs) and project-based rental assistance (PBRA) providers to give tenants 30-days’ notice prior to filing for eviction for non-payment of rent against families and individuals living in public housing and PBRA housing.
