The Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities (CCD), of which NAELA is a member, submitted a statement for the record to the House Veterans Affairs Committee and its Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, urging them not to advance the Veterans Care Protection Act. The draft legislation would grant the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) authority to petition state courts to place veterans admitted to VA medical centers under guardianship — effectively stripping them of the right to make their own decisions about the most basic aspects of their lives, including where they live and what health care they receive.
